什么是PPPoE?
與傳統(tǒng)的接入方式相比，PPPoE具有較高的性能價格比，它在包括小區(qū)組網(wǎng)建設(shè)等一系列應(yīng)用中被廣泛采用，目前流行的寬帶接入方式ADSL 就使用了PPPoE協(xié)議。
隨著低成本的寬帶技術(shù)變得日益流行，DSL(Digital Subscriber Line)數(shù)字用戶線技術(shù)更是使得許多計算機在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)上能夠酣暢淋漓的沖浪了。但是這也增加了DSL服務(wù)提供商們對于網(wǎng)絡(luò)安全的擔心。
通過ADSL方式上網(wǎng)的計算機大都是通過以太網(wǎng)卡(Ethernet)與互聯(lián)網(wǎng)相連的。同樣使用的還是普通的TCP/IP方式，并沒有附加新的協(xié)議。另外一方面，調(diào)制解調(diào)器的撥號上網(wǎng)，使用的是PPP協(xié)議，即Point to Point Protocol，點到點協(xié)議，該協(xié)議具有用戶認證及通知IP地址的功能。PPP over Ethernet(PPPoE)協(xié)議，是在以太網(wǎng)絡(luò)中轉(zhuǎn)播PPP幀信息的技術(shù)，尤其適用于ADSL等方式。
modem接入技術(shù)面臨一些相互矛盾的目標，既要通過同一個用戶前置接入設(shè)備連接遠程的多個用戶主機，又要提供類似撥號一樣的接入控制，計費等功能，而且要盡可能地減少用戶的配置操作。PPPoE的目標就是解決上述問題，1998年后期問世的以太網(wǎng)上點對點協(xié)議(PPPoverEthernet)技術(shù)是由Redback網(wǎng)絡(luò)公司、客戶端軟件開發(fā)商RouterWare公司以及Worldcom子公司UUNET Technologies公司在IETFRFC的基礎(chǔ)上聯(lián)合開發(fā)的。通過把最經(jīng)濟的局域網(wǎng)技術(shù)-以太網(wǎng)和點對點協(xié)議的可擴展性及管理控制功能結(jié)合在一起，網(wǎng)絡(luò)服務(wù)提供商和電信運營商便可利用可靠和熟悉的技術(shù)來加速部署高速互聯(lián)網(wǎng)業(yè)務(wù)。它使服務(wù)提供商在通過數(shù)字用戶線、電纜調(diào)制解調(diào)器或無線連接等方式，提供支持多用戶的寬帶接入服務(wù)時更加簡便易行。同時該技術(shù)亦簡化了最終用戶在選擇這些服務(wù)時的配置操作。
