英語比較級的用法說明

比較級是英語中一種常用的形式,也是譯者在英漢翻譯實踐中常遇到的問題。英語比較級的漢譯,看似簡單,其實不然。下面小編為大家詳細介紹下英語比較級的用法說明，希望對大家有用。
英語比較級的用法說明如下：
一 忌使用雙重比較級
即構成比較級時不能既加詞尾-er，又在其前加more。如：
他的英語比我的英語好多了。
誤：His English is more better than mine.
正：His English is much better than mine.
【注】雖不能說more better, most earliest 之類的，但可用“比較級+and+比較級”這樣的形式：
It’s getting warmer and warmer. 天氣變得越來越暖和。
I’m getting fatter and fatter. 我越來越胖了。
We’re going more and more slowly. 我們越走越慢了。
要想加強比較級的語氣，可用much, far, even, still, rather等修飾。如：
This is very much cheaper. 這個便宜得多。
This one is even more expensive. 這個更貴些。
The patient is much better now. 病人現(xiàn)在好多了。
二 忌比較對象不一致
如果有人問你“一公斤蘋果多還是一尺布多”時，你會怎么回答？你肯定認為無法回答。對，無法回答，因為它們“單位”不一樣，或者說它們不是同一類型的兩個比較對象。在使用英語的比較級時，也要特別注意不要“比”錯了對象。如：
Her French was no better than mine. 她的法語比我好不了多少。
My dictionary is more useful than yours. 我的詞典對你的詞典更有用。
All your neighbours are noisier than ours. 你們的所有鄰居都比我們的吵鬧。
他們的房子并不比我們的大。
誤：Their house is no bigger than us.
正：Their house is no bigger than ours.
【分析】正句中的ours=our house。因為從邏輯上說，應該是Their house與our house作比較，而不是their house與us來比較。
中國人口比日本人口多。
誤：The population of China is larger than Japan.
正：The population of China is larger than that of Japan.
【分析】正句中的that= the population。因為從邏輯上說，應該是“中國人口”與“日本人口”作比較，而不能是“中國人口”與“日本”作比較。
三 忌用錯比較級修飾語
若加強比較級的語氣，其前通?？捎胒ar, even, still, a great deal, a bit, rather, three times, any, no, very much 等修飾，注意不要按漢語意思用very, fairly等修飾比較級。如：
他比你強壯得多。
誤：He is very stronger than you.
正：He is much stronger than you.
她比她丈夫歲數大得多。
誤：She’s fairly older than her husband.
正：She’s far older than her husband.
【注】副詞quite通常不用于修飾比較級，但有一個唯一的例外，就是用于修飾better，表示身體康復。如：
I’m quite better now. 我現(xiàn)在好多了。
Don’t start work again until you’re quite better. 病沒完全好，你可不要開始干活。
另外，當more修飾復數名詞時，其前可用many來修飾，但不能用much修飾；但是，當more修飾不可數名詞時，其前可用much來修飾，但不能用many修飾。比較：
There are many more people than we expected. 比我們想象的人要多得多。
His car cost much more money than mine. 他的小汽車所花的錢比我的多得多。
四 忌用比較級前的冠詞
比較級前原則上不用冠詞，但有時也用，這主要見于以下情形：
1. 當比較級后接名詞或代詞時，比較級前可以用冠詞，此時的冠詞不是修飾比較級，而是修飾其后的名詞或代詞。如：
Which is the larger country, Canada or Australia? 加拿大和澳大利亞，哪個國家更大？
This watch is too expensive. Would you show me a cheaper one? 這塊表太貴了，你能給我看一塊便宜一點的嗎？
2. 當要特指兩者中“較(更)……”時，比較級前通常要帶定冠詞，此時可視為比較級后省略了有關的名詞或代詞one，即定冠詞實為修飾被省略的名詞或代詞one。如：
Mary was the more beautiful of the two. 瑪麗是這兩個人當中較美麗的。
This dictionary is the more useful of the two. 在這兩本詞典中，這本更有用。
3. 用于“the+比較級，the+比較級”，表示“越……，就越……”。如：
The sooner, the better. 越快越好。
The more a man has, the more he wants. 人越有越想要。
The more dangerous it is, the more I like it. 事情越是危險我越喜歡。
4. 當by far用于修飾比較級且置于其前時，比較級前要用the。如：
He’s by far the cleverer student. 他是個聰明得多的孩子。
It’s by far the quicker to go by train. 乘火車要快得多。
注：by far若用于比較級后，則通常不用the。如：
It’s quicker by far to go by train. 乘火車要快得多。
五 忌將比較級與本身含有比較意味的詞語搭配
有些詞語因本身已含有比較意味，它們通常不再與比較級搭配。如：
茶和咖啡, 你更喜歡哪樣?
誤：Which do you prefer more, tea or coffee?
正：Which do you prefer, tea or coffee?
這個班的每一個人都比我年紀小。
誤：Everyone in the class is more junior to me.
正：Everyone in the class is junior to me.
