　　John: Hey Mei, how are yougetting to Edinburgh next week?

　　嗨，Mei。你下周怎么去愛丁堡呢?

　　Mei:I’m not sure yet. I may takethe train but then again I mighttake the bus.

　　我還不能確定呢。我可能坐火車去，不過也可以坐大巴去。

　　John: Yeah, but the bus takes a longtime. You could fly - it’s not so expensive these days.

　　可是坐大巴得好長時間。你也可以考慮做飛機(jī)去，現(xiàn)在機(jī)票也不是那么貴了。

　　Mei:Really? Maybe I'll do that then.

　　是嗎?那要不我坐飛機(jī)去吧。

　　注釋

　　“Might、 may、could”都是可以用來表示可能性的情態(tài)動詞，它們后面一定要跟動詞原形。比如，“You could fly.你可以做飛機(jī)。”;“Don't worry, I could give you a lift home.別擔(dān)心我可以順路開車送你回家。”。

　　這些情態(tài)動詞也有它們的否定式，“might not, may not”;但單詞could除外，因?yàn)?ldquo;could not”這個否定表達(dá)強(qiáng)調(diào)的是“沒有能力或被禁止”，和“可能性”沒有直接關(guān)聯(lián)。

　　我們一般不會在疑問句中使用 might 或 may。構(gòu)成問句時我們通常會使用“Do youthink…?”。

　　Maybe 是一個副詞，一般在句子中起到表達(dá)可能性的作用，但千萬不要把它和“may be”混淆，因?yàn)?ldquo;may be”是由“語氣詞may + 動詞不定式be”所構(gòu)成。

　　情景對話 2：

　　(Speaking on the phone)

　　Maya: Is your girlfriend coming to London next month?

　　你的女朋友下月來倫敦嗎?

　　Simon:It's possible but not likely that she will come here next month.

　　她下月有可能來這里，但是不是很肯定。

　　語法小結(jié)：

　　1.可能性程度從高到低依次為probable/probably，likely，possible/possibly，maybe，may，might。

　　表示完全沒有可能性的說法有以下幾種：

　　It's unlikely.不太可能。

　　It's impossible.不可能。

　　Definitely not.絕對不。

　　2.表示“可能性”的基本句型：

　　It's probable that… 多半可能

　　It's likely that… 很可能

　　It's possible that … 有可能

　　I may + 動詞 我可能 + 動詞原形

　　I might +動詞 我也許 + 動詞原形

　　Maybe I will + verb 我也許/可能 +動詞原形

　　You can + verb 你可以 + 動詞原形(建議對方)

　　You could +verb 你可以 + 動詞原形(語氣委婉地建議對方)

　　3. “可能性”大小的對比：

　　例句1：It is possible that it will rain, but with such a blue sky it doesn't seem probable.下雨的可能是有的，但天空一片蔚藍(lán)，可能性似乎不大。

　　例句2：I think she will probably be alright. I might fly over to visit her.我

　　覺得她應(yīng)該會沒事兒的。我可能會飛過去看看她。

　　例句3: Such accidents are not only possible but also probable.　這類意外不但可能，而目還會發(fā)生。

　　例句4: His success is not impossible but hardly probable.　他的成功并非完全不可能，但希望極小。
